A proposed moisture barrier requires more than a hydrophobic material description. For an RTV system based on a silicone raw material, evaluate coating integrity, interfaces and the component's electrical behavior under the intended environmental test plan.

Evaluation scope
The JY-107 page describes a silicone material that cures with a crosslinking agent and catalyst. It should not automatically be treated as a ready-to-use cartridge sealant or as a complete electronics encapsulant. Establish the supplied grade and formulation responsibilities before evaluating a cured system based on this material.

Keep these variables in the record
| Item | What to record |
|---|---|
| Supply form | Confirm whether the material is a base or a complete system. |
| Formulation | Identify the approved components and their responsibilities. |
| Geometry | Define joint or specimen thickness and exposure. |
| Qualification | Evaluate the cured formulation, not only the base fluid. |
Trial and review plan
- Review the formulated system's compatibility with the component, board coatings and connectors. Identify areas that must remain uncoated and confirm the approved application process.
- Prepare representative coated assemblies and inspect coverage, cure and interfacial defects. Retain an appropriate reference to interpret later functional changes.
- Perform the required environmental and electrical checks under the responsible engineering team's procedure. Inspect the assembly after exposure, including edges and interfaces.
How to use the results
Do not equate water repellency with a specified moisture-ingress rating or electrical safety qualification. Such claims require the relevant assembly evidence. A generic silicone-base description cannot replace tests of the complete coating system.
Information to include in an RFQ
Explain whether you need a silicone base or a ready-formulated system. Provide the intended substrate and cured-property requirements, and request the current specification and safety documents. Cure chemistry, formulation compatibility and end-use qualification must be agreed with the supplier and your technical team.
Frequently asked questions
Can an RTV coating be called waterproof because silicone repels water?
Not on that basis alone. Interfaces, defects and the device design matter. Define the intended protection claim and verify it with suitable assembly-level testing.
Are these proposed checks certified results for this grade?
No. This article describes evaluation and procurement questions, not completed customer trials. Request current grade-specific documents and appropriate test evidence. The acceptance criteria must fit the actual formulation, process or assembly being qualified.
