A pigment paste that looks smooth immediately after mixing may still contain agglomerates or change during storage. Screen octyl silicone oil by comparing dispersion quality and the finished cosmetic, rather than accepting easy mixing as the only success criterion.

Evaluation scope
Octyl silicone oil belongs in a formulation evaluation, not in a stand-alone claim about pigment quality. Pigment surface treatment, the surrounding oil phase and the dispersing equipment all affect the result. The JY-787 product page provides the material identity; the following checks are proposed development work, not reported test results for a customer's formula.

Keep these variables in the record
| Item | What to record |
|---|---|
| Pigment | Record chemistry, surface treatment and supplier lot. |
| Oil phase | Keep the full carrier composition visible in the comparison. |
| Process | Record mixing sequence, equipment and sample temperature. |
| Storage | Use the same container and observation schedule for every sample. |
Trial and review plan
- Prepare a control and a candidate paste using the same pigment lot. Keep pigment loading fixed and document which carrier component the candidate replaces.
- Compare wetting time, visible agglomerates and a suitable dispersion assessment under the same preparation conditions. Retain samples before further dilution.
- Put each paste into the intended base and compare shade, rub-out appearance and separation after storage. Use the same application thickness for all drawdowns.
How to use the results
A faster-wetting paste is useful only if color development and finished-product stability remain acceptable. If the candidate changes shade, first check pigment dispersion and the changed carrier balance. Do not interpret every shade difference as improved pigment efficiency.
Information to include in an RFQ
Send the pigment list, oil-phase composition, intended cosmetic format and the current dispersion problem. Request the current JY-787 technical data, safety data and sample identification. Ask the supplier to distinguish documented grade properties from behavior that still requires testing in your formulation.
Frequently asked questions
Does improved wetting prove long-term dispersion stability?
No. Initial incorporation and later stability are different observations. Evaluate both the stored paste and the finished formula, including the conditions under which the customer will transport and use it.
Are these proposed checks certified results for this grade?
No. This article describes evaluation and procurement questions, not completed customer trials. Request current grade-specific documents and appropriate test evidence. The acceptance criteria must fit the actual formulation, process or assembly being qualified.
